NAM7132-25WIN Assignment Task CW1: Portfolio of Evidence

For the assessment of this module, you are required to create a portfolio of evidence that showcases your understanding of the critical role of social impact and the need for innovation in public health. Your portfolio will display your progress, insights, and tangible applications associated with the four learning outcomes of this module.

The portfolio should be divided into the following pages:

  1. Welcome:

Write an introduction naming yourself and offering a welcome greeting. Following this, you may wish to identify the purpose of your portfolio and then explain to the reader how the portfolio may be navigated.

  1. Exploring Social Impact:   a. Develop an infographic that illustrates your understanding of the value of social impact within society in the context of Public Health. The infographic should effectively convey information, data, and concepts related to social impact and its importance for public health. You may design the infographic using appropriate visuals, icons, graphs, or any other relevant elements. Include references to acknowledge your sources.

b. You are encouraged to include various artefacts such as research studies, case examples, policy documents, practical applications, or visual aids that will enhance and complement your infographic. Explain how these artefacts are linked to LO1.

  1. Innovation in Public Health Projects:

a. Choose a public health intervention and create a visual flowchart illustrating the key steps involved in its planning and implementation. In your portfolio, include comments alongside each step, discussing the role and importance of innovation, as well as any potential limitations that may arise in the absence of innovation. Include references to acknowledge your sources.

b. You are encouraged to include various artefacts such as research studies, case examples, policy documents, practical applications, or visual aids that will enhance and complement your flowchart. Explain how these artefacts are linked to LO2.

  1. Developing an Innovative Idea:

a. Write a 1000-word proposal presenting an innovative project or product that addresses a public health issue and has the potential to generate a positive social impact. In your proposal, you should:

Outline the aim of your project or product, identifying the public health issue it is intended to address. Describe the methodology involved in realising your project or product. This should provide an insight into how your idea will transition from concept to reality. Consider any ethical implications. Detail the potential social impact of your project or product. This section should demonstrate how your initiative will contribute to improving public health and the broader societal benefits that could arise. Include references to acknowledge your sources. b. You are encouraged to include various artefacts such as research studies, case examples, policy documents, practical applications, or visual aids that will enhance and complement your proposal and the potential impact of your idea. Explain how these artefacts are linked to LO3.

  1. Personal and Professional Development Reflection:   a. Create a visual timeline of your journey and progression as an innovator in public health. This chronological timeline should capture key moments, learnings, and achievements that have contributed to your development, not only during your studies but throughout your professional and lifelong practice. Write reflective comments that accompany these points in time and use references to acknowledge your sources if appropriate.

b. You are encouraged to include various artefacts such as reflections on coursework, evidence of participation in workshops or conferences, podcasts listened to, and documentation of learning opportunities that will enhance and complement your timeline. Explain how these artefacts are linked to LO4.

If you are registered with the Disability and Inclusion Services or have a disability, please contact your module leader to discuss how your reasonable adjustments will be applied to this assignment.

Getting Support for Your Assignment

Your first point of advice should be to the person setting the assignment or the module leader.

If you need more general support with your studies (e.g. academic writing, referencing, critical thinking) then the Student Learning and Achievement Team can support the development of your academic skills.

This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:

LO1. Critically explore the value of social impact within society.  LO2. Systematically evaluate the need for innovation when leading public health projects.  LO3. Create and develop an innovative idea in order to demonstrate a positive social impact within an aspect of public health.  LO4. Critically reflect on personal and professional development as an innovator in public health.

Practicalities: Referencing, presenting and submitting your work

To complete the assessment for this module, a mark of 50% or higher is required. You are strongly advised to refer to the Assessment Criteria at the end of this Assignment Brief.

For the development of your portfolio, you are required to use a ready-made template available in the Blackboard Portfolio tool. Detailed instructions for accessing and completing the template are provided in the Assessment Information folder on Blackboard.

Before submitting your work to Turnitin, you need to share a snapshot of your completed portfolio with the assessors. Guidance on this process will be issued in due course via a Blackboard announcement.

For the Turnitin submission, you are required to compile the following portfolio components into a single Word document:

the infographic,  the flowchart,  the 1,000-word project proposal, and  the visual timeline. Presentation and referencing:

Present your Word document in Arial font, size 12, 1.5 line spacing, with page numbers. Include a cover page with your name, surname, student cohort, module code and title, and the submission date. Declare the word count for the project proposal. The word limit is 1000±10% (i.e., 900-1100 words). Use in-text citations and provide a full reference list at the end of the Word document. Referencing should be in accordance with the Harvard System as defined in Cite Them Right. As a general rule, there should be between 8 and 12 references for every 1000 words. This number, however, is indicative and dependent on the number of arguments presented and the number of readings you use. Submission Details

A Word document (.docx) containing all required portfolio components should be submitted via the relevant Turnitin submission point on Blackboard. Sharing a snapshot of your completed portfolio just before uploading your work to Turnitin is also mandatory. You can submit your work as many times as you like before the submission date. If you do submit your work more than once, your earlier submission will be replaced by the most recent version.  Once you have submitted your work, ensure you keep a digital receipt as proof of submission for future reference, along with the original electronic copy of your assignment. Please note that work that is submitted up to 10 working days beyond the submission date will be considered a late submission. Late submissions will be marked and the actual mark recorded, but will be capped at the pass mark (50%), provided that the work is of a passing standard. Work submitted after this period will not be marked and will be treated as a non-submission. Should you consider personal circumstances prevent you from submitting your work, please review the guidance set out on the BNU web pages regarding a deadline extension or mitigating circumstances claim. You can also seek support from the Students’ Union Advice Centre. Confidentiality

You should maintain and respect confidentiality in relation to the protection of personal, technical and/or commercial information of a sensitive nature in your assessed work.

Please adhere to the University’s confidentiality policy and not identify any individuals or institutions unless the information is available within the public domain.

For further information and guidance, please see the University Academic Confidentiality guidance.
