ASSIGNMENT TASK 2: An Expository Essay

  • Researching information on the essay question,
  • Responding to the essay question by making an exposition backed by evidence,
  • Presenting one’s ideas and information in a logical and coherent manner,
  • Correctly referencing sources.

    In order to pass the assessment, you need to ensure that your essay have to fulfil the
    following criteria:
  1. Present the essay plan of your essay.
    a. The essay plan should be structured using subheadings, bullet points and/ or
    numbering to show how you have planned your essay. It should include the
    items you planned for each section of your essay, (i.e., the introduction, each
    paragraph in the main body, the conclusion, and the references). It should also
    include the word count for each section.
  2. Present the title of your essay in title case.
  3. Ensure that your essay has an introduction, a main body, a conclusion and a reference
    list. Remember that when you do this, there should not be any subheadings, bullet
    points, numbering, or listing. Your entire text should be presented in prose and divided
    into paragraphs.
  4. Ensure that your introduction:
    a. briefly states what the essay will say will do, i.e., what the purpose of the essay
    is. This should be done in a clear and concise sentence.
    b. briefly states the items that the essay will present and in what order they will
    appear, and
    c. if applicable, gives a definition of terms.
  5. Ensure that your entire essay, including the main body of the essay, is
    a. written in prose,
    b. divided into paragraphs with one idea per paragraph, and
    c. that these paragraphs are coherent and logically organised.
  6. Ensure that your conclusion
    a. gives a very brief summary of the items presented, and
    b. links back to the title.

  7. Ensure that your reference list
    a. has at least three references, and
    b. that these are accurately stated, strictly following the Harvard Newman
    referencing guidelines.
    c. Note that for this assignment, you should avoid using any ‘tools’ and write the
    entries to your reference list yourself, carefully following the guidelines.
  8. Ensure that you
    a. use formal language, (and hence avoid contractions and informal terms).
  9. Format: For this assignment, you are required to use
