Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment is to observe and reflect on psychosocial nursing communication, focusing on end-of-life care, interprofessional communication, and collaboration. You will watch the movie WIT and explore concepts of death, dying, and the nurse-patient psychosocial relationship during end-of-life care. You will also examine effective psychosocial communication and interprofessional collaboration during this stage of care.

Instructions:

•        Movie: Watch the movie WIT.

•        Reflection Paper: Write a reflection summarizing your reactions to the movie and relating them to course concepts on psychosocial communication, interprofessional communication, and end-of-life care.

•        The use of  I statements is acceptable as this is an informal reflection uses APA for citations and references.

•        Length: 3-5 pages (excluding title and reference pages).

•        Format: APA 7th edition format with citations, title page, and reference page.

Reflection Structure:

1.  General Description of the Movie (1-2 paragraphs)

•        Provide an overview of the movie, including:

o    The main characters. o The major theme. o    The setting. o   Include a citation for the movie in APA format

2.  Role of Nurse/Communication (3-4 paragraphs)

•        Roles of the Nurse: Describe at least four roles the nurse plays in the movie. Supported with a citation.

•        Consistency with Professional Nursing: Reflect on whether the roles are consistent with professional nursing standards supported with a citation.  

•        Nurse’s Communication: Discuss whether the nurse’s communication was professional. Include three styles of therapeutic communication and describe interprofessional collaboration and communication (minimum of two styles) supported with a citation.

•        Support with Literature: Cite at least three scholarly sources (may include one course reading).

3.  Reaction to the Movie (2-3 paragraphs)

•        Emotional Impact: Was the movie difficult to watch? What emotions did it evoke? Discuss the feelings you had toward the main character or other characters (e.g., her father).

•        Character Evolution: Describe how the main character changes throughout the movie. Do you think this change was realistic?

4.  Impact on Future Practice (3-4 paragraphs)

•        Impact of Nurse Roles: How will the nurse’s roles from the movie impact your future nursing practice?

•        Communication in End-of-Life Care: What type of communication supports individuals during end-of-life care, and how will you incorporate this into your practice?

•        Enhancing Interprofessional Collaboration: Based on course learning, how could you enhance interprofessional collaboration when facing barriers similar to those in the movie?

•        Support with Literature: Cite at least two scholarly sources (may include one citation from course readings).

5.  Summary (1-2 paragraphs)

•        Recap Key Points: Summarize the main points you covered, including thoughts on death, dying, and the nurse-client relationship.

•        Additional Reflections: Share any additional reflections you may have on the themes explored in the movie and how they relate to nursing practice.
