You will do a position paper on debates in leadership. This is your opportunity to engage in independent research. This assignment has two components. In the first component, you select one or more of the current debates in the field of leadership psychology that you will defend in your position paper and write a literature view on the topic. In the second component, you use this literature review as a framework to write the position paper.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Overview This debate selection and literature review assignment will be used to support your debates in the leadership position paper. In the final position paper, you will take a position on one or more of the current debates in the field of leadership psychology. You will defend your position using research from your literature review.
For the literature review, you must select at least five appropriately cited, peer-reviewed journal articles related to that debate. Refrain from stating your opinion on any of the material in the literature review; you will have an opportunity to do that in the position paper.
Prompt Choose one or more of the current debates in the field of leadership psychology. Sample debates include the following:
Analytical versus holistic approach Individualism versus group cognition Balancing employee satisfaction/needs and the bottom line Then, write a Min of 4-page paper that states the significance of the debate(s) you selected and do a literature review on the debate(s). The literature review should begin with an overview of the subject. In the overview, state your purpose for conducting a literature review, demonstrating the significance of the psychological debate. Next, divide your selected resources into categories (each side of the debate). Compare and contrast each source and determine which sources best support the argument.
For each source:
Include proper APA citation. Identify the problem: List the side of the debate the source supports. Compare the resource: Explain how it is similar to or different from other sources. Final Review: Consider the objectivity of the article, the sources the author selected to support the article’s ideas, and the value of the author’s conclusions. Overview A position paper will be used as one of your comprehensive assessments. Within the position paper, you will make value judgments about prevailing debates in the field of psychology. While you will be relying more on your personal viewpoints, you must substantiate claims with logic, reason, and evidence, as supported by scholarly research.
This assessment will assess your mastery with respect to the following course outcome:

Background – Detailed information about a debate prevalent in the field of psychology must be presented. The following questions must be answered: Which debate was chosen? Why? What is the historical importance of the debate? Positions – To be considered a debate, there must be a discussion that involves opposition. Address the distinct positions of the debate. Is each side of the debate sustainable? Why or why not? Are the leader’s responsibilities practical in nature? Why or why not? Defense – To be able to participate in a structured debate, one must choose a position and prepare to defend that stance. Which side of the debate do you choose to defend? Why? Provide an official position defense, including evidence to support your position using scholarly research. The position paper should be min 7 pages in length, not including title page and references, and should include no less than 5 scholarly resources.
What is a Literature Review:
A literature review summarizes and analyzes the most significant sources on a specific topic or problem. It situates your research within the broader scholarly conversation by showing what scholars have discussed and how your research question contributes to that discussion.
Literature reviews usually take the form of a paper (although different professors or fields may have differing specifications) with both in-text citations and a works cited page. Literature reviews can be organized in a number of ways; however, they often consist of:
an introduction explaining the topic a thorough discussion of various sources (typically organized around a common factor like theme or type of methodology) a conclusion summarizing the information presented Remember: a literature review typically involves both summary and analysis. For example, if you are working with sources consisting of scientific studies, evaluate and compare different sources’ methodologies. You can find sources to include in your literature review using the library’s Multi-Search or subject-specific databases.
Your literature review should be in a citation format appropriate for your field—this could be APA, MLA, or Chicago style. For more guidance on citation formatting, check out the library’s Citing Your Sources guide.
