Select a role, service area, or organisation and deliver a ten-minute audio presentation on the communication skills involved in the area and how collaboration features as part of a multidisciplinary team approach. You should include an introduction to the area you have chosen, to set the context of your audio piece. You should include a description of what you have learnt about the role of different types of communication and how they can impact on different areas of work. You should talk about the role of communication in managing potential conflict and negotiation. You should talk about the role of interprofessional working and how it features in the context of the area you have chosen.
Your podcast should:
- Outline the background of the chosen role or organisation.
- You can choose one from the list if you wish, e.g.,
- Residential setting.
- Supported living service
- Nursing Home
- GP surgery
- Day centre (identify the type of centre)
- Dementia Specialist Unit
- Hospital Ward – identify the ward
- Facility for Young Adult who are neurodiverse
- Working with a physically disadvantaged person (disability) etc
- You can choose one from the list if you wish, e.g.,
- Outline what interprofessional working is, why this is needed, and how this is done within your chosen role/organisation considering who the key stakeholders are.
- Consider how people communicate within your organisation, and how they communication with outside stakeholders. (LO1)
- Review the importance of clear communication and collaboration within the role/organisation
- You can refer to your own experiences where appropriate here i.e the role communication played to support a success or an issue
- Describe the different types of communication and the impact they can have. This should include a discussion on verbal and non-verbal communication. You should specifically consider the impact of these different forms of communication on multi professional team working (LO2)
- Discuss the role of communication in managing potential conflict and negotiation. This should include at lest 1 theory relating to conflict management. This should be applied to your chosen organisation. (LO3)
- Outline the concept of shared leadership and role of team work to support inter-professional working.
