Overview This assignment builds on your work for Week 1. You will be adding to your index page and creating two more pages for your site. You will also be creating the navigation links, external links, and adding images to your pages. The focus is just on HTML, so do not include any CSS or style tags in the pages (that will come next week).

AI Use

For this assignment, you are welcome to use AI chatbots to elicit explanations and examples of the various semantic and text markup HTML tags covered in the reading, but you should not use the AI to generate code, nor should you copy and paste code into your assignment from an AI or other outside resource. You are also welcome to use an AI chatbot to address validation errors and other problems with the code, but you must enter any changes yourself (again, no copying and pasting).

No CSS Styling

This week’s assignment is working with plain HTML. You will start using CSS in the next assignment, but do not use it for this week’s work.

Preparation On your desktop (or other location that you can find easily), create an empty folder named IT3240_Week_2. Copy your index.html file from week 1 and add it to the new folder (along with any images used on the index page). Open this folder in Visual Studio Code. Editing index.html and Adding New Pages Add

andtags to your index page with the correctly paired closing tags and add relevant content to these sections (you should already have a). The presence of these semantic tags may not alter the appearance of the page this week, but they will play a role when you start styling your pages and working on layout using CSS for future assignments. Add at least three HTML comments to identify the page in the code and document parts of the page. Add a…section to your index page with links to your index.html and the about.html and contact.html pages that you will be creating below. Use at least five semantic and text markup tags from those discussed in the reading (besides those used already) to mark up the text of the index page (adding additional text as needed). Be sure are text is contained in

or other appropriate text/semantic tags. Using your index.html as model for the HTML structure tags, create the “about” page (about.html) with a title like “About Us” or “About [organization name].” Replace the content of the page with content (and HTML markup) for the “about” page. Include the…section from the HTML page with the same links. Use semantic tags and text markup tags appropriate for the content of the page. Include at least one list (unordered, ordered, or description list on the “about” page). Add at least one image that is unique to the “about” page. Include at least 50 words of content specific to the “about” page. Insert at least three HTML comments to identify and document the page. Again, using the index.html as a model for the HTML structure tags, create the “contact” page (contact.html). Include content for the page with appropriate HTML tags. The page should have the same site navigation links as the other pages. Include at least two external links (hyperlinks or email addresses). Include at 50 words of text to the page (the contact information counts as content). Add at least three HTML comments to identify and document the page. Verifying Your Work Test them in two different browsers to confirm that they work as expected. In a Word document, state which browsers you tested the pages in. You do not need screenshots of the pages displaying in the browsers. Go to the Nu HTML Checker tool at validator.nu to check the HTML for all three pages. In the “Check by” dropdown menu, select “file upload.” Then, click the File Upload button to upload the .html file to be validated. After the file has been uploaded, click the Check button. Repeat the process for each HTML file. Fix any errors noted by the tool and correct the causes of any warnings. You are welcome to use an AI chatbot to assist with understanding the problems and to suggest corrections, but you need to decide on the steps to be taken, and you must type in the code yourself. Do not copy and paste code from the chatbot or allow the AI to modify your code. Re-check the .html file as needed until all issues have been addressed. Take a screenshot of the Nu HTML Checker results for each page that was edited showing successful validation and add it to the Word document with the statement of which browsers you tested the page in. Submission Requirements Add the Word document to the folder containing the three .html files and the image files. Please do not include any extra files in your submission. Compress the folder and submit the zip file as an attachment to your submission. Competency 1: Author well-structured, standards-compliant HTML Uses semantic and text markup tags. Creates “about” and “contact” pages. Tests in 2 browsers. Validates HTML and fixes errors. Competency 2: Style web page content using current CSS. Adds navigation section with links.
