Part 2: The Systematic Review Process
Your paper should follow a structured, systematic process, and you should dedicate a section of your paper to explaining this methodology.
- Search Strategy: Detail the databases you searched (e.g., ERIC, Scopus, Google Scholar), the specific keywords you used (e.g., “21st-century school leadership,” “visionary leader,” “digital leadership skills”), and the date range of your search.
- Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria: Clearly state the criteria you used to select studies. For example, you might only include peer-reviewed articles from the last 10 years that focus on K12 education.
- Data Extraction: Explain how you extracted relevant information from the selected studies (e.g., using a table to summarize findings, themes, or methodologies).
Part 3: The Paper’s Structure
Your paper should be organized as a scholarly document and include the following sections:
- Introduction (approx. 500 words): Briefly introduce the importance of visionary 21stcentury school leadership and state your specific research question.

Use subheadings to categorize your findings (e.g., “Technological Dispositions,” “Emotional Intelligence,” “Fostering a Culture of Innovation”).
- Discussion & Conclusion (approx. 1,000 words): Discuss the implications of your findings for school leadership practice and research. What are the gaps in the literature? What are the key takeaways? Conclude by summarizing your main points and re-stating the answer to your research question.
- References: A minimum of 20 scholarly sources must be included
