Present Levels of Educational Performance
2 min read The Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP) section of an Individualized Education Plan should drive all subsequent content of the IEP, including goals and services. Formal assessment data and information gathered via parent/teacher interviews are primary sources of information to create a PLAAFP. It is important that teachers be able to analyze and summarize such data and information to collaborate with IEP team members when developing a PLAAFP.
Part 1: Case Study
Review “RTI Case Study: Laney.”
Based on the information provided, write a summary of 250-500 words of Laney’s current educational performance that could later be incorporated into the PLAAFP section of an IEP.
Your summary should include the following student information:
Academic strengths
Results from evaluations
Performance in classes
Influences of language, culture, and family background
Strengths, preferences, and interests in nonacademic areas
Any other relevant issues from the case study not directly addressed
Any additional information that should be collected that may not be included in the case study

In an additional 100-250 words, describe the process required for determining eligibility. Reflect upon why it is important to know the potential effect of differences in values, languages, and customs that can exist between the home and school. Describe how this affects eligibility for special education services. Review and cite an example from the Professional Dispositions of Learners to support your response.
