Teen Survival Pamphlet Navigating Puberty & Adolescence
Imagine you are a Certified Family Life Educator and have been asked to create a short pamphlet for teenagers who are going through puberty. Your goal is to explain developmental changes in a way that is accurate, supportive, and easy for teenagers to understand. The goal is to translate developmental science into useful information that teenagers can understand and apply to their lives.
Step 1: Choose at Least TWO Topics
Your pamphlet should address at least TWO topics from this week’s materials. You may choose from:
Surviving Puberty: Physical changes, hormones, growth spurts, or differences in the timing of puberty
Understanding Eating Disorders: Risk factors, warning signs, and why eating disorders are serious
Understanding Your Changing Brain: How adolescent brain development influences thinking and decision-making
What You Should Know About Vaping, Smoking, Alcohol, and Other Drugs: Why substance use can be particularly risky during adolescence
Step 2: Create Your Pamphlet
For each of your two topics, include: (21 points for each concept*2 = 42 points)
What should teenagers know? Explain the concept accurately using teen-friendly language. Focus on information that would actually be useful to an adolescent.
Why does it matter? Connect your advice to a specific concept or finding from this week’s course materials. Explain how it relates to development during adolescence.
What can teenagers do? Provide at least one practical strategy or recommendation that teenagers could realistically use to support their health and development.
Format Options
You are welcome to be creative with your pamphlet, but visual design is not required. You may:
Use Canva, Adobe, PowerPoint, or another design program to create your pamphlet.
Hand-draw and handwrite your pamphlet and upload a clear picture or scan.
Create a simple document without elaborate design.
If you do not want to create visuals, you may describe in text what your pamphlet would look like and provide the written content.
Important: You will be graded on the quality, accuracy, and application of the information you provide, not on the visual appearance or design of your pamphlet. Artistic or technology skills will not affect your grade.
