Intellectual Disability Nursing Practice 4 Assessment

Module Title : Intellectual Disability Nursing Practice 4 / Mental Health Nursing Practice 4 / General Nursing Practice 4                               

The assessment for this nursing practice module consists of two main components as shown in the table 1 below – Part 1 – Clinical component (MyCAD), and part 2 – Academic component. The student is required to successfully complete BOTH components of the assessment i.e. academic and clinical in order to COMPLETE the module.

2. Academic Component:

“Clinical audit is a clinically led quality improvement process that seeks to improve patient care and outcomes through systematic review of care against explicit criteria and acting to improve care when standards are not met. The process involves the selection of aspects of the structure, processes and outcomes of care which are then systematically evaluated against explicit criteria. If required, improvements should be implemented at an individual, team or organisation level and then the care re-evaluated to confirm improvements.” (DOHC 2008, p.152)

To create an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish, undertake a clinical audit within your area of nursing practice and analyse the process and outcomes using identified audit criteria.

Assignment Criteria

• Identify area of practice to be audited.
• Standard audit criteria and cycle
• Impact on the client/service user/ patient, profession and professional  Support your work with relevant literature.

Introduction (200 words max)

• Identify topic chosen for audit
• Include overview of chosen topic for audit
• Relevant literature on chosen topic
• Include rationale/purpose
• Identify audit tool being used (standardised tool to be used, ensure referenced appropriately)

Audit process (150 words max)

Critical Discussion of findings (1250-1500 words)

• Present overall findings
• Context of standards set and existing literature.
• Identify anomalies with current practice, support with relevant literature
• Implications for professional practice, education, research, management
• Evaluate Audit process
• Include proposed quality improvement plan

Conclusion (150-200 words max)

Draw together main points of overall assignment.
