This Business Fundamentals assessment from the Business and Operations Apprenticeship tests how business structures, data, operations, marketing and ethics affect organisational performance. Apprentices first work in groups on a recorded presentation about key management and leadership writers, then individually audit their own organisation, or one they know well, under five headings with supporting theory.
Module Learning Outcomes
- Explain how business structures and functions contribute to organisational performance.
- Interpret data to identify trends, support decision-making and recommend operational improvements.
- Assess operations and workflow activities to recommend improvements in efficiency and productivity.
- Describe how fundamental marketing strategies can enhance customer engagement and drive business growth.
- Evaluate ethical considerations and sustainability practices to support responsible business operations.
Part A: Group Project (50%) (LO1 to LO5)
Working in groups assigned by the instructor during the opening two-day workshops, research the background and contributions of a minimum of five key writers in Management and Leadership Theory. Present the findings as a pre-recorded presentation (video or podcast, minimum 10 minutes) supported by slides, infographics or other visual material. Every member presents on at least one writer, and the presentation ends with a critical evaluation of the relative importance and impact of the selected writers. Creativity and originality are encouraged.
Part B: Individual Element (45%) (LO1 to LO5)
Conduct a structured audit of your own organisation (or a suitable organisation familiar to you), demonstrating knowledge, application, analysis and critical evaluation supported by relevant theory.
